Nike
– The Shirt Never Sleeps
Whatever your age, whatever your team, you always care about the shirt.
I’m normally most concerned about Sheffield United’s new strip, but on this occasion FC Barcelona had to do.
Football is tribal, and the colours you wear are central to that. Grown-ups debate about them on football forums, social media and WhatsApp groups.
They define where you come from, what you’re fighting for on the pitch and what you sing about on the terraces.
It is the spirit of towns, cities and countries.
The shirt never sleeps, for the game that never stops.
Up the Blades.
Look at that, a Blades fan with his fingerprints in the Barcelona lobby. Proper naughty.
It even found its way to South Africa, where they still call a footy shirt a ‘jersey’.
