They were called VAN.
In the haze of noughties indie sleaze there was a rock and roll band from Sheffield.
A band that got parked…
Forget salvation – every time VAN wrote a tune it was a hymn to some kind of chaos
Dancing on the edges of blues, distortion and questionable beer, VAN were a scorching, hedonistic outfit that played like their amps were on fire and their hearts were about to burst.
VAN’s music was for the floorboards of back rooms – riffs of raggedy velvet drenched in feedback and kicks unleashed from beastly calves – all spat back in a glorious racket of sweat-licked blues and rock and roll.
Playing in dancehalls across the UK on tour supports, secret gigs and roller discos, VAN also wrote three demo EPs, numerous home demos and countless other never-recorded tunes.
VAN probably won’t return.
